Anyone who needs a safety course for a Fireworks Display Operator License (required in Colorado); persons in regulatory capacities; and those interested in expanding their hobby fireworks knowledge. Please note this is not a typical PGI DOC offering as we will not conduct life fire of Display Fireworks live fire demonstrations. Therefor this will count as 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU) not the typical 0.8 CEUs.

Registrants must be 18 years of age in order to either receive the safety certification or participate in the hands-on practical portion of the class. Minors shall be permitted to attend this course in conjunction with a participating adult.

ABOUT THE TEACHER & RMPG: Nick Rinaldo is a volunteer for the Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI) as Certified Instructor for the Display Operator Certification Course. Nick Rinaldo is also the Director of Education for The Rocky Mountain Pyrotechnics Guild (RMPG) and Co-Director of Training Programs for the PGI. RMPG Is a 501c3 non-profit club incorporated in the State of Colorado for the purpose of encouraging the safe and artistic use of fireworks through education and shared expertise.

WHAT THE STUDENTS RECEIVE: Each participant will receive the: new 2026 edition of the PGI Display Fireworks Operator Certification Study Guide. An interactive classroom style lecture, written testing. A basic cold lunch of deli meat sandwiches and chips, and assorted beverages will be provided to attendees. Apologies as we can’t accommodate special dietary restrictions. This class excludes the typical live fire demonstrations and hands-on field experience using 1.3g Display Fireworks. 1.4g Professional or other Consumer Fireworks items may be utilized in demonstrations and field instruction. All accompanied by a Certificate of Completion for those who successful complete this safety course. Those who attend, but fail the exam, will receive aCertification of Attendance.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSING: The state of Idaho does not require Operators to hold Fireworks Display Operators license. However, other states do. Depending on the individual state requirements you will need to determine if this class meets those needs. Neither PGI nor RMPG guarantees this class covers all requirements that you may encounter. Many states also require proof that you assisted in five fireworks displays in addition to attending a safety class such as this. Greater details will be explained during this class. PGI also has an optional Operator’s Certification. This application form can be found as included at the back of the study guide.

WHAT THE STUDENT SHOULD BRING: Each participant must bring safety glasses, a head covering or hard hat, hearing protection, and wear cotton clothing with long sleeves and long pants (turnout gear is acceptable). Flame retardant layers and boots are recommended for the outdoor portion of the class. Hot, cold, wet, windy weather and/or muddy ground is always possible at this time of year, so be prepared. It is highly recommended to bring a pen, pencil, clip board or other hard surface to write on, highlighter, and paper for taking notes. A water bottle and anything else you feel you might need to be comfortable is advisable.
